Children’s Culture Festival 2027

The Municipality of Vestmannaeyjar is taking part in a joint project of the Association of Municipalities in South Iceland (SASS) to prepare and run the South Iceland Children’s Culture Festival in 2027. The festival aims to strengthen children’s culture and create a platform where children and young people can enjoy culture, take an active part and share their own creativity.

Preschools, primary schools, the music school, the sports centre and the Safnahús museum in Vestmannaeyjar will take part in the project together with SASS and other partners. Through its participation, the municipality puts children and young people at the forefront as creative participants in the cultural life of the community.

Children’s Culture Days will be held in Vestmannaeyjar on 21–23 April as part of the shared programme of the South Iceland Children’s Culture Days, with a wide range of events, workshops, exhibitions and creative projects where the talents, ideas and perspectives of children and young people can shine. BarnaHljómey is also part of the programme; it has become an important platform for music-making and performance by children and young people in Vestmannaeyjar. The partnership also supports the goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child on children’s participation in society and culture.

The municipality’s participation is an important contribution to strong cultural work for children and young people, and strengthens cooperation between the municipalities of South Iceland in culture and education.
